Howard Knight grew up fishing and hunting in North Idaho and started working with leather as a child in 4-H. The rhythm and flow of his passion for fly fishing have found their way into his artistic style of tooling leather. His initial interest has evolved into a passion for unique and challenging projects.

Perfection is always the goal in each hand crafted item. His work includes belts, briefcases, hat bands, vests and furniture inlays. His specialty is filigree work in the Classic Western Floral style. Collectors of vintage buckle sets by Bohlin, Schaezlein, McCabe or Keyston Bros. find his hand tooled belts a must.

His work is found coast to coast in discerning shops and galleries in Jackson Hole, Santa Fe and Vail to name a few. He attends a limited number of Western shows a year where you can meet and discuss your ideas in person.

Artistic collaboration is something Howard has come to really enjoy. He has blended his talents with fellow artisans like boot makers Lisa Sorrell and Bill Shanor, clothing designer Paula Hausvick of Boucher Leather in Santa Fe, silversmiths Rob Schaezlein and Susan Adams, bronze sculptor Rip Caswell and jewelry designers Catherine Canino and Doug Magnus.

Mentored by Master Leather Carvers Chuck Smith and Ray Pohja, Howard's craft is always expanding. Contact Howard with your ideas and see how he can conceptualize your dreams.
